Justice Secretary Michael Matheson says he is open to considering if there is further scope for improvement in police complaints and conduct reviews.

Mr Matheson asserts the public must have confidence in these and police officers must be protected too.

He confirms he and the Lord Advocate have appointed Dame Elish Angiolini to review the police complaints and conduct reviews process.

Mr Matheson states the review will bring independent scrutiny of how complaints are handled by the police.

It will also make recommendations to ensure the system is fair and transparent, he adds.
