A supermarket in Cornwall has reopened after a storm caused damage to the roof on Monday.

High winds brought parts of the roof down of the Sainsbury's in Bude, resulting in the shop closing all day.

The south west was battered by 73mph winds during storm Atiyah.

Parts of the roof were badly damaged and roof insulation was said to be blowing through the town on Monday.

The Bude tunnel, the highest rated TripAdvisor attraction in a Cornish seaside resort in 2018, was not damaged by the storm.

But the plastic tunnel attached to the side of the supermarket has been closed as a precaution.

A Devon Olympian has finally received his bronze medal from the Sochi Winter Olympics.

The quarter of John Jackson, Bruce Tasker, Stuart Benson and Joel Fearon initially finished fifth in the four-man bobsleigh in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

But two Russian crews, who finished ahead of them, have since been disqualified for doping offences lifting the British team into third place.

The quartet officially received their medals at the Team GB Ball in London at the end of November.

Mr Jackson, 42, lives in Exmouth and as a Royal Marine is based at the Lympstone Commando Training Centre.

Devon County Council’s full council meeting on Thursday began with the chairman of the council congratulating Jackson on his medal.

The bronze brings Team GB’s medal tally from Sochi 2014 to five after Lizzy Yarnold’s skeleton gold, Jenny Jones’ snowboard slopestyle bronze, and silver and bronze medals for the men’s and women’s curling rinks respectively, and means it is Team GBs most successful ever Winter Olympics.

Most areas of the UK suffered torrential downpours over the season, but none more than Holne on the southern edge of Dartmoor, where 899mm of rain fell in the autumn.

Councillor Stuart Hughes, cabinet member for Highway Management, told Thursday’s full council: "As of 25 November, the council received over 326 public reports of flooding for the month, including reacting to 394 call outs, at least a third of which appeared to be due to standing water/flooding."
