  1. It's whistles, which the Catholic Church says "pose a threat". Also banned are gazebos, animals, musical instruments, alcohol and BBQs. Flags and battery-powered torches are fine.
  2. It's Jessica Harper, but only by the whisker of a *. The swimmer got eight A* and two A grades. Diver Tom Daley got a total of seven A*s and three As, including the three GCSEs he took last year.
  3. It's 1, which is the village of St Endellion, near to where the Camerons were holidaying and named after Cornish saint Endelienta. Number 2 is stag-magnet Newquay and 3 is the county capital, Truro.
  4. "Shift foreman speaking," announced Mr Urzua, a true professional even in times of crisis. The 54-year-old has taken charge, distributing food and allocating jobs to keep the men busy. It is expected to take four months to get them out.

Matt and Alex - Matthew Prescott and Alexandra Maitland - were the names given to the Gold Blend couple in a novel written off the back of their long-running coffee ad campaign, which started in 1987.
  7. It's Russia, although the Bulgarian passport office had the slowest queue of all, taking six hours to process 36 customers. The research by Mystery Shopping Providers Association ranked Spain, Denmark and the UK in the Top 10.
