Surprise albums are nothing new, but Noisia have been forced to release their album six weeks earlier than anyone planned.
The Dutch electronic trio had to put their second album, Outer Edges, out six weeks early after it leaked online.
They heard about it 10 minutes before the first show of the tour to promote the album.
Thijs de Vlieger told Newsbeat: "We expected a but this was way earlier than expected."
"One part of my brain was thinking 'why now?' The other part was thinking 'okay what do we do next?'"
The 18-track album is their first in six years.
After an emergency meeting with their label, the band made Outer Edges available on their web store. Fans can download it from other stores on 5 August.
Vinyl and CD versions of the album, as well as merchandise, are all still in production so will still have to be released on 16 September.
"The best way to combat a leak is to release it yourselves," explained Thijs.
"But we spent a lot of time planning this but now all of that is completely invalid - that's very frustrating."
He said what happened with the album could "possibly" change how the group approaches their next release.
Noisia's manager Walter Flapper agreed.
"We had a short release plan this time around, with only two and a half months between the announcement and the release of the album," he told Newsbeat.
"Next time we'll have to think about making it even shorter."
He explained how a year's work had been affected by the release.
"You have to get in touch with magazines so far in advance to get cover shoots and that sort of thing but that's all gone too"
"Things like this [leak] show how the traditional way of putting out an album doesn't always work anymore."
In a statement on Facebook, the group said: "We realise it's 2016, and things like this happen all the time. Still, it's quite a setback.
"Even though we are unhappy about this leak, we're still really happy with the music.
"We really hope you will enjoy it as much as we've enjoyed making it."
