International students generate millions for Yorkshire

A new study showing the economic contribution of international students to parts of the UK has been released.

Figures from The Higher Education Policy Institute show that pupils who began their studies in Yorkshire and the Humber during 2015/16 generated £1.59bn for the region's economy.

The parliamentary constituency of Sheffield Central tops the country-wide list for net gain with the 2,456 international students who lived in the constituency and started their studies in 2015/16 generating £226m per year during the duration of their course.

The Leeds Central constituency was 11th in the table, generating £153.9m from international students during the same period.

Once again the benefits of international students living and studying in Sheffield are clear. Thousands of jobs across the city are created by money spent on tuition fees, as well as shops, restaurants, housing and more"

Plans for 25-year revamp of Leeds railway station released

New images have been released of how Leeds railway station could look in the future.

A 25-year project to regenerate the station is described as an "ambitious transformation into a distinctive gateway hub of international significance" by Leeds City Council.

The masterplan, which was approved by the council last month, includes a new concourse, new platforms, a new roof, footbridge, external landscaping and the creation of a surrounding station "campus" for commercial, residential and leisure developments.

Labour MP for Leeds Central, Hilary Benn, says the government needs to admit its timetable for Brexit is unrealistic.

Hilary Benn - who's head of the Commons Brexit committee - has been talking as Parliament prepares to debate the bill to take Britain out of the European Union.

Opposition parties say they won't back the Repeal Bill as it stands, accusing the government of a "power grab".

Earlier this week the government said it is ready increase the pace of Brexit talks, however Mr Benn says it's not possible for everything to be sorted out by the end of next year.
