Listen: Reports into Rotherham sex abuse 'slap in the face' says abuse survivor

A series of reports into how Rotherham Council dealt with the sexual abuse problem in the town have been described as "a whitewash" by some survivors of the abuse.

No legal or disciplinary proceedings should be brought against any current or former senior officers at Rotherham Council over its handling of child sexual exploitation, a report has said.

The failure to tackle the problem was "not the fault of any one person" but was the result of "multiple and systemic failures", the report found.

Rotherham's MP says it is "morally repugnant" to pay paedophiles to act as informants.

However, Sarah Champion, who is also Shadow Secretary of State for Women and Equalities, said using paedophiles as informants, unpaid, is worthwhile if it prevents abuse.

She was reacting after Northumbria Police was criticised for paying a paedophile £10,000 to act as an informant in a recent abuse case:

South Yorkshire is now a sea of red after former Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg lost his Sheffield Hallam seat to Labour.

The other 13 South Yorkshire seats remained with Jeremy Corbyn's party, and the successful candidates have been speaking about their wins.
