Residents near The Ridge in Hastings are being advised to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution following an earlier fire at a derelict care home.

About 40 firefighters were called out to the Mount Denys care home just before 05:00 BST.

There were no reports of any casualties.

An investigation into the cause of the blaze is under way.

It was the latest in a number of fires at the site in recent weeks.

Southern Water has warned that water pressure and supplies in the area could still be affected because firefighters were using hydrants.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called to the Mount Denys care home on The Ridge just before 05:00 BST.

There are no reports of any casualties.

There have been a number of fires at the building over the past few weeks.

Southern Water said water pressure and supplies in the area are being affected due to fire crews using fire hydrants.

Local residents have been advised to keep doors and windows closed to avoid the smoke.

Two people have been taken to hospital following a carbon monoxide incident in Newhaven.

East Sussex fire crews, along with a decontamination unit, were sent to the Euro Business Park at 10:00 GMT after a carbon monoxide alarm was triggered in a building located in Estate Road.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus carried out a search of the premises to identify the source and removed carbon monoxide from the building using a positive pressure ventilation fan.

Other emergency services and agencies at the scene included South East Coast Ambulance Service, Sussex Police and SGN.

Bradley Barlow, spokesman for the gas distribution company, said: "We carried out safety checks and found no gas escapes from our network.

"We have made the situation safe and our engineers will remain on site to support the emergency services."

East Sussex Fire and Rescue said it had not been a major incident, and it had been scaled down, though crews still remained on the scene.

Fire crews in East Sussex are dealing with a carbon monoxide incident at the Euro Business Park in Newhaven.

The emergency services were called to the scene in Estate Road at 10:00 GMT after a carbon monoxide alarm was triggered.

Gas engineers from SGN are also on site.

It is not known which company on the business park has been affected, but East Sussex Fire and Rescue said the premises had been evacuated.

It is understood one person has been taken to hospital.

Crews still tackling Brighton flats fire

Fire crews are still tackling the fire at a high rise building in Brighton, but have scaled down their operation from six fire engines to just two.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue were called to the second floor of the seven-storey block of flats in Donald Hall Road just before 19:00 GMT.

It is not known in which room the fire broke out, or if anyone has had to be rescued.

There are no details of any injuries.
