  2. Huawei responds to security fears over 5G

after security concerns were raised once more over the weekend about allowing Chinese phone firm Huawei to supply “non-core” parts of the UK's high-speed 5G networks, the company has responded today.

"We are a private company which has supplied 3G, 4G and broadband equipment to the UK's telecommunications companies for 15 years," it pointed out.

It said two UK parliamentary committees concluded "there is no technical reason to ban us" from supplying 5G equipment.

"And now Andrew Parker, the Head of MI5, says he has 'no reason to think' that the UK's intelligence-sharing relationship with the US would be hit if Britian continued to use Huawei technology."

It added that it was confident the government will "take a decision based on evidence - not unsubstantiated allegation."
