More than 500 swimmers in the Dart 10K raised money for Level Water which provides specialist one-to-one swimming lessons for children with physical and sensory disabilities.
About 1,500 people swam from Totnes to Dittisham in two swims last Saturday and Sunday.
It was the 10th anniversary of the Dart10K which is "never just about the swimming, it's about challenging yourself, and being part of this big-hearted good-time free-spirited community", said Kate Rew of organiser the Outdoor Swimming Society.
The event started with about 150 swimmers and since then more than 6,000 people have taken part.
"I love that it's become such a big part of so many people's lives, and helped changed the landscape of open water in this country," said Ms Rew.
