Online food ordering firm Takeaway has reported strong revenue growth and a small core profit for 2019, the last year before it takes over rival Just Eat.

The Dutch firm reported pre-tax earnings of €12.3m (£10.3m), after a loss of €11.3m a year earlier.

The merged company is awaiting final approval from the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), a deal which will create one of the world's largest meal delivery companies.

"We are very excited about the opportunities the combination makes possible and are looking forward to 2020," Takeaway chief executive Jitse Groen said.

Which is the UK city that never sleeps? Which has more 24-hour restaurants, supermarkets, takeaways and gyms per person than any other?

London? Liverpool? Edinburgh? Think again.

It's Newport in South Wales. The city has more 24 hour businesses per 100,000 people than any other UK city, according to Barratt Homes.

The company has calculated that there are 1,370 totally 24-hour businesses in the UK with Glasgow home to the most open-all-hours restaurants and Manchester hosting the most all-nighter takeaways.

London, meanwhile, has the most all-night casinos, with 35.

Prosus is in an ongoing battle with Takeaway.com for control of UK food delivery firm Just Eat, and this week upped its bid to £5.1bn.

Takeaway.com has hit back at a Prosus statement from Monday, saying Prosus made "unfounded claims about the future value creation opportunity of the Just Eat Takeaway.com combination".

Jitse Groen, Takeaway.com chief executive said: "I am the founder of Takeaway.com and I still own 25% of the shares.

"If Prosus' recent claims were true, the value of my shareholding in Takeaway.com would effectively halve after the Just Eat Takeaway.com combination. Why would I do that?"
