Brexit bill amendment 'passes without vote'

An amendment to a bill aimed at blocking a no-deal Brexit - which was backed by MPs last night - was seemingly passed without a vote.

Labour's Stephen Kinnock put forward the amendment to force an extension to the Brexit deadline to allow MPs to vote on his party's proposed changes to former prime minister Theresa May's withdrawal agreement back in May.

Neil O'Brien, Conservative MP for Harborough, was one of the many MPs ready to vote for the amendment, as shown in this picture on his Twitter page.

It appeared to pass without a vote as no tellers were available to count the votes against it, BBC Parliamentary correspondent Mark D'Arcy said.

Watch: Harborough MP requests Windrush update from PM

BBC Politics

Harborough MP Neil O'Brien had the first question of today's PMQs and asked Theresa May for an update on the Windrush deportation row.

Theresa May responded there has been a "great deal of concern and anxiety" and that "these people are British, they are part of us".

She said the government had "no intention of asking anyone to leave who has the right to remain here" and offered an apology for anyone whose status in the UK has been challenged.
