Cheryl speaks out about her mental health issues

BBC Newcastle

Former Girls Aloud star, Cheryl, has spoken out about her battle with mental health issues - revealing she struggled for many years without telling anyone what was going on inside her head.

The 36-year-old has told the BBC her anxiety made her feel as though she was "dying inside", but giving birth to her son, Bear, in 2017 was the impetus for getting help.

The singer has also criticised online trolls, and says she believes hateful comments say more about the person writing them than they do about her.

The former Girls Aloud singer performed her solo comeback track, Love Made Me Do It, live on the ITV show on Saturday night.

The energetic display got mixed reviews from fans online, with some suggesting that even X Factor judge Nile Rodgers had thrown shade at the Geordie singer by not standing up and clapping afterwards.

Fake news guys!

Nile has cleared this up online - with the use of his smart TV (see below).

"Pic on right was me before I just happened to sit down," he explained.

"I never snub anybody. It's not my nature.

"Really folks? This is what we've come to."

Cheryl was co-presenting on Radio 1 with her former X-Factor co-judge Nick Grimshaw yesterday afternoon.

She revealed that, over the past year, she's been getting help for anxiety.

Chezza told him that having a baby has changed her perspective, adding: "Things that might have bothered you before or might have been a problem before, become less relevant to you."

She said she decided to seek help "because I don't want the baby to feel that, and I don't want to feel stressed as a mam".

Her son Bear was born in March last year.

"You know what I used to be like for anxiety and stuff? I have been seeing somebody for about the past year to keep that anxiety in check."

She told Grimmy: "I don't want to feel stressed as a pop star, even. We're supposed to be living our best lives, aren't we?"

Her new track Love Made Me Do It is the first music she's released since Only Human in 2015.
