Snow is expected across southern England and Wales from Thursday evening and overnight.
Because there are rarely large volumes of snow in the UK, the phenomenon is not seen very often.
It was not all travel misery during the snow - these children made the most of the cold weather.
Events are called off and there are some travel problems, although a weather warning has been downgraded.
Snow has fallen across most of Wales, causing events to be cancelled and some travel disruption. Up to 10cm (4in) of snow was expected in many areas, but high ground could see 15-25cm (6-10in). An amber "be prepared" warning which the Met Office issued for south-east and mid Wales has now been downgraded to a yellow "be aware" of snow and ice. Flights at Cardiff airport are returning to normal, although delays remain on some flights.
