  2. Patients urged to book flu jabs

    The doctor leading the flu vaccination roll-out in the North East is urging everyone who's eligible to get their jab as soon as possible.

    There are concerns that immunity has dropped off because of self-isolation rules last winter and, with continuing Covid pressures, there are fears the NHS could struggle to cope if people need treatment in hospital.

    Dr Neil O'Brien (pictured below) said: "Flu kills many people in England every year and we're worried it could come earlier this year.

    "We've had really good uptake of the flu vaccination historically and we're pushing the targets this year to protect as many people as possible."

    Anyone who is over 50, who has a long term health condition, or is pregnant is advised to contact their GP practice to get a jab.
