A UK man has been arrested in the Czech Republic on suspicion of a multi-million pound fraud, police have said.

The unnamed 64-year-old allegedly misled investors by promising them profits through Czech property deals.

He was held in the central town of Rataje nad Sazavou after two years on the run, police in Prague said.

The victims - from countries including Britain, France, Peru, Singapore, Australia and Canada - were allegedly defrauded of £4.3m, they added.

A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesperson said it was aware of the reports and was urgently investigating.
