County Durham motorway crash taxi driver named

Police have released the name of a taxi driver who died when his vehicle left a motorway in County Durham.

Norman Charles Sanderson's Skoda veered off the northbound carriageway of the A1(M) near the Chester-le-Street junction and hit a substation.

The 59-year-old, from Ashbourne Road in Stockton was taken to hospital, but pronounced dead soon afterwards.

Witnesses to the incident, at about 0400 BST on Thursday, are asked to contact Durham Police.
