Metal theft warning to County Durham van drivers

Van drivers in County Durham have been warned not to leave metal piping unsecured following a spate of thefts.

In four weeks there have been about 12 reports of metal being stolen from the top of vans in Crook, Newton Aycliffe, Bishop Auckland and Spennymoor.

In all cases piping had been left on the top of vehicles overnight.

Durham Police said it provided easy pickings for opportunistic thieves and advised workers to remove their loads overnight, or provide robust padlocks.
