M42 shut after van and lorry collision near Bromsgrove

A crash involving a van and a lorry closed a motorway in Worcestershire during the morning rush hour.

The van overturned after colliding with the lorry on the northbound carriageway of the M42 at junction 1 - Bromsgrove - at 0515 BST.

The van was left lodged in the central reservation, leading police to close the road in both directions between junctions 1 and 2 for about four hours.

One lane in each direction remains closed for barrier repairs.

As a knock-on effect of the accident the M42 entry slip roads on the M5 at junction 4a were closed to drivers in both directions.

The northbound slip road had re-opened by 0840 BST.

The 27-year-old van driver was cut free by emergency services following the crash and has been taken to hospital, West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

An investigation into the collision is underway.
