A woman had a lucky escape after a tractor crashed into the front of her house in County Durham.

Police said the vehicle hit the back of a parked van on High Street, Tow Law which caused it to spin before crashing into the property.

Moments before the incident on Friday morning, the woman inside the house had taken her dog into her back garden.

The 27-year-old tractor driver, from Crook, was taken to hospital in Durham with minor injuries.

The area around the property has been cordoned off - the fire brigade and structural engineers were also called to the scene.

Mavis Orton, from Tow Law, witnessed the crash. She said: "It sounded like a bomb going off.

"An awful mess was made there's rubble all over the street."
