Two motorcyclists were injured, one of them critically, in a collision with a car on a County Durham road.

One of the motorcyclists, a 43-year-old man, landed in a tree when he was thrown from his bike after a head-on collision with the car on the A689 near Wolsingham on Sunday morning.

There was then another collision with a second 51-year-old rider, who suffered serious injuries.

The 51-year-old car driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

The driver, from Houghton-le-Spring, was later released on bail while further inquiries were carried out.

Both motorcyclists are from the Stanley area.
