Two roundabouts on a County Durham road are being given funky new colour schemes.

The county council approved plans to spend £7,400 on the junctions on the A689 at Rushyford near Bishop Auckland.

A spokesman said the project would "brighten up the area" making the county more appealing to drivers and visitors.

Work on one of the roundabouts has finished and the other is expected to be completed by the end of the month.

Councillor David Farry said: "We are delighted this mundane roundabout has been totally transformed into a focal point.

"I think it brightens up the area and makes the road more appealing to both locals and visitors, hopefully helping to put our area on the map."
