Grant for Suffolk mushroom farm

A Suffolk-based firm has been awarded a £300,000 grant to build a £1m carbon-friendly mushroom farm and create up to 75 jobs.

The scheme involves refurbishing a disused mushroom growing site at Stanton near Bury St Edmunds.

The grant was provided by the East of England Development Agency (EEDA).

The new facility will use fewer plastic bags than normal processes, reducing carbon emissions, and uses space more efficiently.

John Clay, project manager at Suffolk Mushrooms Ltd, said: "We are delighted to receive the funding from EEDA to breathe new life into an old mushroom farm."
