Harpoon fisherman held by Brighton police

A harpoon-carrying fisherman on his way to Brighton beach has been arrested, Sussex Police have said.

Officers said the 30-year-old from London was seen wearing a wetsuit and flippers and carrying a harpoon and knife in North Street at 0845 BST.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said he was arrested on suspicion of carrying an offensive weapon.

She said: "The man told officers he was on his way to the beach to do some fishing."

He is currently in custody awaiting interview.
