West Mercia Police warn drivers of jewellery scam

Motorists are being warned about a "potential scam" where two men are flagging down cars and asking for money for fuel or selling jewellery.

West Mercia Police said the men flag down motorists claiming their vehicle has broken down.

Eleven incidents have been reported across Herefordshire, Worcestershire and south Shropshire.

The men usually told motorists they needed to sell the jewellery to buy petrol to get home.

The men are often seen with a dark BMW or silver saloon car.

Act Det Sgt Neil Lippitt said: "The sellers can be persistent and persuasive and the jewellery is usually very cheap gold or polished metal and not worth the money paid.

"I would ask motorists to be vigilant on their travels and not to buy items."
