Police investigating a double shooting in an alleyway in County Durham have recovered a second firearm.

Two men were shot in Spennymoor on 9 October. One was taken to hospital but neither was seriously hurt.

A second shotgun was found on open land in the area. Previously police recovered a shotgun from an outbuilding at the rear of Clyde Terrace.

The case against a 44-year-old local man who was charged in connection with the incident has been discontinued.

Durham Police said they had discontinued the case against the man, who had been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and assault causing actual bodily harm, following advice from the Crown Prosecution Service.

Six other men remain on police bail pending further enquiries.

The two weapons are now to be subjected to forensic analysis to see whether either of them was the firearm used in the incident.
