Darlington quad rider injured in collision

The rider of a quad bike has suffered serious injuries in a collision with a car in Darlington.

The 20-year-old, who police said was not wearing a helmet, was involved in a collision with a Suzuki Swift car in the town's Barton Street on Monday.

He was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital with a fractured skull and chest injuries, where his condition was described as serious.

The 32-year-old woman driver of the car was not injured.

A spokesman for Durham Police urged all riders to wear safety equipment.
