Backing for £25m Ipswich transport scheme

A £25m scheme to improve transport in Ipswich has been approved.

The project, developed for Suffolk County Council, has been given the backing of the government.

The scheme includes rebuilt bus stations, a computerised traffic management and information system and real time bus information.

The council's transport chief Guy McGregor said the scheme, which would make it easier to walk and cycle around the town centre, was "wonderful news".

He added: "It is going to raise the whole quality of the built environment."
