Affordable homes plan for Darlington estate discussed

Plans for a multi-million-pound regeneration of a residential area of Darlington are to be discussed by councillors.

The project, to improve council-owned properties in the Parkside area, could see up to 66 one-bedroom flats converted into 33 three-bed houses.

Other properties would be assessed for replacement kitchens, bathrooms and heating systems.

The scheme is likely to cost in the region of £3.3m.

Bill Dixon, Darlington Council's cabinet member for neighbourhood services, said: "If the work at Parkside is approved, we can ensure that we are meeting demand for affordable family homes in this area.

"If approved, the work will sustain the estate in the long-term and provide a safer, more pleasant environment."
