Police have identified a lorry driver who died in a crash on the A1 in Belford, Northumberland.

Stephen Scott, 59, a Stobart driver from the Preston area, was pronounced dead at the scene on Saturday.

It is understood Mr Scott became unwell at the wheel and lost control of the vehicle. Police have not linked the death to the ongoing cold weather.

A force spokesman said the vehicle left the southbound carriageway and ended up in a grass verge on the opposite side.

No other vehicles were involved.
