Man charged with raping teenager in Shropshire

A man has been charged with raping a 14-year-old girl in a Shropshire town following an appeal on the BBC's Crimewatch television programme.

Thomas Anthony Fleet, 22, was arrested by police in Southampton, following information from members of the public, West Mercia Police said.

Mr Fleet, of no fixed abode, formerly of Gains Park, Shrewsbury, appeared before Shrewsbury magistrates.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Shrewsbury Crown Court on 21 December.

Mr Fleet, who had previously been arrested over the incident which took place in October 2009, was also charged with failing to surrender to bail on 24 March.
