Hartlepool Pedestrian injured on County Durham road

A pedestrian has been seriously injured when he was struck by a car while crossing a road in County Durham.

Police believe that the 51-year-old, from Hartlepool, ran into the path of the Vauxhall Marina in Seaside Lane, Easington Colliery.

He was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital, suffering from serious head injuries, and was later transferred to a hospital in Newcastle.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident at 1830 BST on Friday.

The couple in the car were not injured.
