Three men have been charged in connection with a pub brawl which left a reveller with serious head injuries.

Police were called to the Oddfellows Arms in Haswell, near Peterlee, on 10 April after reports of a disturbance.

Two men aged 26 and 24 from Hartlepool and 20-year-old from Leadgate have been charged with conspiracy to commit actual bodily harm with intent.

A fourth man, who is 25 and from Cumbria, remains on police bail pending further inquiries.

A spokesman for Durham Police said a 31-year-old man from Durham had also been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of ammunition.

This follows the recovery of a handgun in Gateshead, which was found as a result of the initial inquiries into the incident at the Oddfellows Arms.

He is due before Gateshead magistrates in January.
