South West custody suites full after New Year arrests

Custody centres across Devon and Cornwall are full after the New Year celebrations.

Devon and Cornwall Police said they had made more than 160 arrests overnight - the majority of which involved alcohol-related and public order offences.

Insp Andy Oliver said the level of arrests for the time of year was "not unexpected".

"It is a busy time of the year - if not the busiest - for the emergency services," he told BBC News.

"But on the whole people celebrated well and there was no significant disorder."
