Championship footballer Chris Martin has been fined £1,000 and must pay £1,000 compensation to his victim after pleading guilty to assault.

The 22-year-old Norwich City striker, from Beccles in Suffolk, assaulted Tony Hawthorne on 29 August last year.

They were both at a fancy dress party in Morley St Peter, Norfolk.

Mr Martin, who has played for England under-19s, was given credit for his guilty plea by district judge Philip Browning at Norwich Magistrates' Court.
