About 60 taxi drivers have taken part in a protest in Durham about plans for a shake-up of their trade.

Durham County Council is looking at plans to deregulate the service by removing zones and lifting limits on the number of vehicles operating.

They also involve making all newly-licensed hackney carriages white.

Taxi drivers in the city said they feared there was not enough business or space to cope with extra vehicles operating.

The council said a decision will not be made until next month. It drew up the plans after a consultation on the future of the trade.
