Crash death motorcyclist from Blackpool named

A 44-year-old motorcyclist who died in a crash with a car in a Cumbria village has been named by police.

Andrew Mitchell was on his 900cc Honda when it collided with a Volvo V70 on the A684 at Garsdale, near Sedbergh.

Despite the efforts of an air ambulance team, Mr Mitchell, from Blackpool, died at the scene on Saturday afternoon.

The 74-year-old woman driver of the car, who is from Lincolnshire, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by driving without due care and bailed.

The road was closed for several hours and police are appealing for witnesses.
