Hereford and Shrewsbury fans praised for restraint

Fans at Hereford United's home game against Shrewsbury Town have been praised for behaving at the local derby.

When the sides met at Shrewsbury's Greenhous Meadow in November, fighting broke out involving more than 100 fans.

More than 100 police officers were on duty at Edgar Street on Saturday which ended in a 2-0 win for the visitors.

Out of a crowd of 3,942, one man from Shrewsbury was arrested for being drunk and disorderly.

He was charged and bailed to appear at Hereford Magistrates Court on 4 May.

West Mercia Police Ch Insp Mark Travis said: "I would like to thank fans from both clubs for their patience and understanding as we managed the game robustly.

"Their good attitude, combined with a strong policing presence, meant the day passed off without any trouble."
