Cyclist Michael Phillips dies in Teesside road crash

A 29-year-old cyclist has been killed in a crash involving a car on Teesside.

Michael Phillips, from the Durham area, was involved in a collision with a blue Ford Focus on the A1185, near Billingham, on Friday.

Cleveland Police said he was taken to North Tees University Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

In a statement released through the force, Mr Phillips' family described him as a keen cyclist who "died doing something that he loved".

'Loving man'

The family said: "Michael died doing something that he loved - cycling.

"Michael was a loving man. We will miss you lots and lots from all your family.

"The family would like to thank the emergency services involved in trying to save Michael's life. Rest in peace Michael."

Police have appealed for anyone who was travelling along the A1185 Seal Sands Link Road towards Seal Sands from Billingham to contact them.
