Bid to catch Lincolnshire barn fire arsonists

Police and fire investigators in Lincolnshire are appealing for help to catch arsonists who set fire to a cereal barn and 250 straw bales.

Firefighters were called to the barn in Acthorpe at about 0120 BST on Friday. A "significant" amount of produce was destroyed and the barn was gutted.

Two days earlier, crews were called to a straw bale fire, also at Acthorpe.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue's Steve Wright said the damage caused would cost thousands of pounds to repair.

Mr Wright, arson task force manager, said: "Fortunately there were no serious injuries in this case.

"However, dealing with these incidents tied up valuable fire and rescue resources.

"If a call for a life-threatening emergency had come in to us, this could have meant a delay in attendance, putting those people requiring our help at risk due to the mindless actions of these selfish people," he said.

Anyone with information about the fires is asked to contact Lincolnshire Police.
