More trains and fewer delays are being pledged by rail bosses after a new operating centre replaces signal boxes in Sussex and Surrey.

The centre at Three Bridges station will control signals on the London to Brighton line.

Network Rail said that more than 900 jobs could be created in the area.

The centre, which is one of 14 planned across the country, is expected to be complete by 2013 and will also provide more information to passengers.

Three Bridges station will also be upgraded, with a new waiting area and the relocation of the ticket gates and resurfacing of the platforms.
