A 20-year-old soldier has been charged with attacking a 15-year-old boy in East Sussex, leaving him with extensive brain damage.

Ashley Dacosta, who is based at Victoria Barracks, Windsor in Berkshire, has been charged with grievous bodily harm.

Mohammed Bourner, also known as Mo, was attacked just before midnight on 28 October in Bexhill.

Mr Dacosta is due to appear before Brighton magistrates on Tuesday.

Sussex Police said he lived locally.

Mo, who is being treated at King's College Hospital in London, has regained consciousness but does not recognise his family.

He was punched in De La Warr Parade, Bexhill, after attending a beach party in the town.
