Fatal Brighton street lorry crash driver named

A man who died after the lorry he was driving crashed into several parked cars and a gas main in a Brighton street has been named by police.

Roger Smith, aged 52, of Eastmead Trading Estate, Ashford, Kent, suffered fatal injuries during the incident in Queens Park Road.

He was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton but died later.

Six homes were evacuated by police as a precautionary measure following the crash at about 11:30 GMT on Thursday.

Sussex Police said a post-mortem examination was due to take place next week.

A wall in front of the terraced houses was also damaged during the crash.
