A 65-year-old Cumbrian man has pleaded guilty to carrying out sex attacks on four young girls.

David Bryant, of Rock Cottages, Baycliff, Ulverston, had previously denied the charges of four counts of kidnap and four of indecent assault.

The allegations centre on attacks in Hampshire in 1982 and 1983, and in Newcastle in 1995. They involve girls aged between three and five.

He will be in custody until sentencing at Newcastle Crown Court on 5 March.

Det Ch Insp Steve Binks from Northumbria Police said: "I want to thank the families and victims for their support and strength through this traumatic and timely ordeal.

"The team has worked with the families involved in this case for many years to seek justice and today this man has pleaded guilty.

"I hope it brings solace and reassurance to others that no unresolved case is closed."
