Fake Devon and Cornwall policeman in 'sponsorship' scam

A man claiming to be a police officer and asking for money is being sought by Devon and Cornwall Police.

Officers said small businesses had been contacted in Falmouth and Torpoint in Cornwall, and Plymouth in Devon, in what they called a "bogus operation".

In one instance, the man said he was from Torpoint police station and asked for £195 for "sponsorship".

He was described as well-spoken, with an accent which was possibly from the north-west of England, police said.
