Turkey firm spends £10m at Norfolk and Suffolk plants

A turkey producer plans to invest £10m in factories in Norfolk and Suffolk where 2,000 people are employed.

Bernard Matthews has announced an extra £3m will go to the plant at Great Witchingham in Norfolk and £4m at the Holton factory in Suffolk.

Managing director Rob Mears said this was in addition to £3m already planned.

The firm suffered a loss last year when turkey feed prices increased by 50% but Mr Mears said turnover and performance had now returned to 2006 levels.

He said operations were still behind where they were when bird flu broke out six years ago but the new investment showed they were confident about the future.
