Chichester hospital patient death suspects' bail extended

Three West Sussex hospital workers arrested on suspicion of the manslaughter of an elderly patient have had their bail extended.

Joan Dixon, 77, of High Street, Findon, died of a suspected overdose at St Richard's Hospital, Chichester, on 19 October 2010.

Post-mortem tests confirmed the cause of death as digoxin toxicity.

A 24-year-old woman and a man, 38, from Chichester, plus a man, 42, from Emsworth have been bailed until 23 May.

A Sussex Police spokeswoman said St Richard's Hospital had been assisting police with their investigation and a police report was being considered by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Digoxin is used to treat a number of heart conditions.

An inquest was opened and adjourned on 2 November 2010.
