Woman, 89, seriously hurt in Chelker Reservoir crash

An 89-year-old woman has been seriously hurt after the vehicle she was in crashed into a reservoir on the border between West and North Yorkshire.

The accident happened at about 13:20 BST on Tuesday when the Land Rover in which the woman was a passenger left the A65 between Skipton and Addingham.

The vehicle hit a wall before coming to rest in Chelker Reservoir, police said.

The woman is being treated in hospital in Leeds for head injuries described as serious but not life-threatening.

The driver of the vehicle, a woman believed to be in her fifties, was not injured in the accident.

Both women managed to escape from the Land Rover to safety, North Yorkshire Police said.

The A65 was closed for about four hours as police carried out an investigation into the crash and recovered the vehicle from the reservoir.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw the accident to contact them.
