A 52-year-old man is being hunted by police after his estranged partner was found with life-threatening stab wounds at her house in Bedford.

Officers were called to Cottril Way at 07:00 BST on Saturday and found the woman, who is in her 30s.

She is in hospital in a critical, but stable condition.

Police said they urgently want to trace Clifton Marshalleck, who is black, about 5ft 8in (1.72m), stocky and with a shaved head.

He has a dragon tattoo on his left arm.

Bedfordshire officers are making inquiries in the "Home counties and south east", a spokesman said.

Mr Marshalleck may be driving a silver Ford Focus Zetec, registration number AF03 HYW, which was taken from the house at Cottril Way.
