Police investigating the rape of a 19-year-old woman on Brighton beach last month have arrested two men.

The suspects, aged 32 and 34, from Brighton were held on Thursday and released on police bail until November.

Police said the victim, from Kent, left the Oceana nightclub in the early hours of 7 September and was raped on the beach near the bottom of West Street.

Witnesses who may have seen three men acting suspiciously or a distressed woman have been urged to come forward.

Det Insp Ian Still from Sussex Police said: "These suspects were identified as part of our thorough ongoing investigation, which has included speaking to a number of people who were out that night and an extensive trawl for CCTV.

"We have been able to narrow down the time we are interested in to between 1:15am and 2:20am in the early hours of Thursday into Friday."

The victim has previously told officers she was grabbed by two men and raped while a third looked on.

Police said she had been out with a friend earlier in the evening but he had decided to go back to the hotel where they were staying.
