Man, 61, dies after crashing into a tree on the A5

A 61-year-old man died when his car left a road and crashed into a tree in Northamptonshire.

Police said the man, who was driving a black Maserati, was travelling towards Towcester on the A5 when the car spun out of control.

The crash, near Butchers Lane in Pattishall, happened at about 08:35 GMT. The road was closed for five hours.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other fatal crashes have happened in the county over the past three days.

A 43-year-old woman died after her car came off the A14 eastbound carriageway near the A43 junction at Kettering just after 08:00 GMT on Thursday.

A 33-year-old passenger from Enfield was killed on Boxing Day morning when the car in which he was travelling crashed into a tree at Church Brampton.
